We create and support rigorous social scientific studies of policing and democracy.

The Politics of Policing Lab (PoPL) at Emory University cultivates, produces, and supports research about contemporary policing. Led by co-directors Tom Clark, Adam Glynn, and Michael Leo Owens, PoPL partners with researchers, foundations, public safety agencies, and civil society organizations to answer key questions at the intersection of policing, political behavior, and policy change.

PoPL employs faculty, post-doctoral scholars, graduate students, and undergraduate students for rigorous social science studies of policing. The lab’s interests range from police militarization to racial bias in policing to the consequences of police violence for civic participation. Grants from the federal government, private philanthropies, and Emory University support its work.

Our Research Projects page provides more information about our studies, present and past. For more information about our researchers, visit our People page. Interested in collaborating with PoPL? Contact the lab at policinglab@emory.edu.
